Old Fashioned Soft Sugar Cookies

Earlier I posted our favorite family recipe for Frosted Sugar Cookies.  This recipe is for a soft sugar cookie and is fantastic sprinkled with sugar.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 cups shortening
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups sour milk
  • 8 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp nutmeg
  • 4 tsp baking powder

How to Make Old Fashioned Soft Sugar Cookies

  1. Cream together the white sugar, the brown sugar, and the shorting.
  2. Add the eggs and the milk and mix throughly.
  3. Mix in the remainder of the ingredients and chill.
  4. Roll out to 1/4″ thickness. Cut in your favorite shapes and sprinkle with sugar.
  5. Bake 9 to 13 minutes at 375°

  1. I love old fashioned sugar cookies. When I was a kid they were my brother’s speciality – he was the only one allowed to make them!
